Band_Photo_Dog_TalesStray Dog is a Denver based band that plays their own brand of original acoustic and traditional music. “A peculiar blend of Irish, folk, blues and bluegrass distilled in Denver’s own backyard.”

Anne Zinschlag, Eric Woods, Will Cottrell and Jeff Hooton are Stray Dog. They draw upon a diverse musical appreciation, instrumentation and background. “People find our music uplifting. We have a great time playing together and our audience feeds off this."

Will and Jeff had been jamming together and cooking up songs for a short time when they discovered Anne’s powerful voice over a bottle of red wine. Shortly thereafter, Eric added a strong traditional American flavor along with his own songs to the mix.

Although guitars and vocals continue to provide the main course, Stray Dog continues to tweak the recipe with the ‘scratch and squeeze’ of the fiddle and accordion and ‘trickle and plunk’ of the mandolin and banjo.

NEWS:

03/26/06: Hello everyone! We have finally finished recording and mastered our CD thanks to the deft work of our engineer Brian Hunter down at the Sawtelle Studio at Swallow Hill. Thanks to his good ear and talented 'mouse work' Brian has done us proud and has helped us produce what we feel reflects our live sound.  We have 13 of our original songs on the CD and now must complete all of the artwork and packaging. We should be able to sell one to you at our shows by mid-summer or even better at a release party (to be announced).

We had a great time playing at the Swallow Hill 27th Birthday Party on Friday. It was great to share the stage with some great folks and friends that we have made down there. There really is a great opportunity for any aspiring musician to get out of the house and 'get down there and make it happen' at Swallow Hill. That's where we went a couple of years ago to an open mic on a Thursday with Ed.

We are looking forward to playing the Swallow Hill Cafe on  Thursday June 15th at 7pm. We will also be playing a concert for the Summer Picnic series on August 16th and as a part of the Swallow Hill Folk Festival August 25th thru 27th ...Take Care All!

05/23/06: We have a show coming up June 3rd at the D-Note. Should be a great opportunity for you folks farther North to check us out. The CD is now off replicating itself in some large production plant so we expect we might be able to sell you one very shortly (perhaps at the Swallow Hill Cafe show on June 15th). I'll put a link to a music shop on the music page for those that wish to buy one online when we sort out the distribution part...woof!

06/25/06: The Dogs were howling late last night to celebrate the arrival of their new born CD. Watch for it on CD Baby or pick one up at Monday nights show at The Cricket on the Hill.

07/30/06: We've had some memorable shows this week at the Little Bear and the Sheabeen Irish Pub and have upcoming shows at both these great places this next month. If you wish to buy a CD you can pick one up at a show or follow this link to  Buy Our CD Now.
